Glace Bay Panthers defeat Memorial Marauders

GLACE BAY, N.S. —

The Glace Bay Panthers needed a third period rally to defeat the Memorial Marauders 4-1 in Cape Breton High School Hockey League action on Sunday at the Canada Games Complex at CBU.

The Panthers outshot their northside rivals 35-9, but Memorial goalie Aidan Penny performed admirably to keep his side in the game that was tied 1-1 after two periods. Logan Snow opened the scoring in the first period with a power play marker to give Glace Bay the lead, but the Marauders equalized in the second when Travis Gillis found the back of the net while Memorial enjoyed the man-advantage.

Snow’s second power play goal of the contest came early in the third period and proved to be the game-winner. Liam Burke scored an insurance marker before the Panthers pulled further ahead with a Mitchell Hiscock short-handed goal.

Owen Coombes was the winning goalie.

The two teams were scheduled to play again on Monday evening at the Emera Centre Northside.

Riverview leads the four-team loop with 12 wins in 12 games, although three of those were won in overtime and another was due to a Glace Bay default. The Panthers are in second with an 8-2-2-0 record, while Memorial (4-8-1-1) is third and Sydney Academy fourth with a record of 2-9-1-1.
