Glace Bay Panthers, Riverview Ravens open high school playoffs with wins

Best-of-three playoff series continue Tuesday and Thursday.

GLACE BAY, N.S. - The Glace Bay Panthers and Riverview Ravens opened the Cape Breton High School Hockey League playoffs with victories on Sunday.

In Glace Bay, despite a late push by the Memorial Marauders, the Panthers held on for a 5-4 victory in Game 1 at Miners Forum.

Mason Fraser and Landon Clark each scored twice, while Johnathan Gallant added a single marker for the Panthers.

Daniel Young netted a pair of goals, while Ryan MacMullin and Mason Chapman also fired home goals for the Marauders.

Glace Bay's Owen Coombes made 26 saves. Memorial's Jack MacPhee stopped 13 of 18 shots.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is slated for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney.


Earlier in the day, the Ravens blanked the Sydney Academy Wildcats 4-0 at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath.

Luc Sampson scored twice, while Keigan Geizer and Liam Robertson added goals for the Ravens.

Riverview's Patrick Hinchey stopped all 19 shots he faced. Sydney Academy's Liam Collings turned aside 27 of 31 shots.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.
