Redmen down Marauders to remain perfect in high school hockey league action

SYDNEY – Kinnon Williams had a three points night, which included two goals, to lead the Riverview Redmen to a 5-2 win over the Memorial Marauders in Cape Breton High School Hockey League action at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre on Friday.

Andrew McCarron also found the back of the net twice for the Redmen (8-0-0-0) in their final game before the Christmas break. Blake Cox added a single marker to round out the scoring the Coxheath-based school.

Jacob Jessome and Dovi Walker replied with goals for the Marauders (3-6-2-0).

Michael MacMullen made 20 saves in the win for Riverview. Jonathan Dolomont turned aside 32 of 37 shots in the loss for Memorial.

The Marauders opened the scoring on the power play with Jessome finding the back of the net, but Riverview would answer at the five-minute mark of the first period with McCarron’s goal, tying the game 1-1.

The Redmen poured on the offense in the second period with a pair of goals by Williams and a single marker by Cox.

Riverview added to their lead with McCarron’s second of the game, making the score 5-1 in the third period. Walker added a goal later in the period for Memorial, but that’s as close as they would get to a comeback.

Cape Breton High School Hockey League action continues on Sunday when the Glace Bay Panthers (7-2-1-0) host the Sydney Academy Wildcats (0-8-0-0) at 7 p.m. at the Canada Games Complex on the Cape Breton University Campus.
