Bedford school captures boys high school hockey championship

SYDNEY, N.S. —

It took overtime to decide Nova Scotia’s Division 1 high school hockey championship on Sunday at the Canada Games Complex.

And, for the second consecutive season, Bedford’s C.P. Allen Cheetahs skated away with the provincial title thanks to a Chris Consmueller goal with less than 80 seconds remaining in the first overtime period that gave his team a 3-2 win over Cole Harbour’s Auburn Drive Eagles in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.

The Cheetahs advanced to the final with a Saturday evening semifinal win over Upper Tantallon’s Sir John A. Macdonald Flames, while Auburn earned its place in the final with a win over the Citadel Phoenix of Halifax.

The three-day tournament that started Friday was hosted by the Glace Bay Panthers who along with the Highland Division champion Riverview Redmen played but did not make the semifinal stage of the eight-team competition.
