Redmen blank Marauders in high school hockey action Tuesday

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — 

The Riverview Redmen continued their dominance of the Cape Breton High School Hockey League on Tuesday.

The Redmen blanked the Memorial Marauders 7-0 at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney to improve their regular season record to 11-0-0-0.

With the loss, Memorial’s record falls to 4-6-1-1 on the season.

Noah MacKinnon and Sam MacKinnon both scored twice for the Redmen, while Nathaniel Fuller, AJ Let and Kendall MacQueen each had a goal.

Michael MacMullen picked up the shutout for Riverview. Memorial’s goaltending information was not available.   

Cape Breton High School Hockey League action resumes on Friday with the Redmen hosting the Glace Bay Panthers at 7 p.m. at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath.

Johnson nets four goals as Panthers blank Wildcats in high school hockey action

SYDNEY, N.S. — 

Xavier Johnson scored four goals to lead the Glace Bay Panthers to a 9-0 victory over the Sydney Academy Wildcats in Cape Breton High School Hockey League action at the Canada Games Complex on Sunday.

Liam Burke, Mitchell MacDonald, Tye Clarke, David Beaton and Jarrett Hicks chipped in with single markers for the Panthers (6-2-2-0)

With the loss, Sydney Academy's record falls to 2-9-1-1 on the season.

Owen Coombes stopped all 23 shots he faced for the shutout. Liam Collings turned aside 25 of 31 shots, before being replaced by Daniel MacGillivary, who allowed three goals on seven shots in his 15 minutes of relief. Collings was tagged with the loss.

Cape Breton High School Hockey League action resumes Tuesday with the Marauders hosting the Redmen at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney. Game time is 7:15 p.m.

Snow's four-point performance helps Panthers beat Marauders in high school hockey action

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — 

After losing in the Panther Classic semifinal last Saturday, the Glace Bay Panthers returned to the win column on Thursday.

Logan Snow's four-point performance held lead the Panthers to a 6-4 victory over the Memorial Marauders in Cape Breton High School Hockey League action at the Emera Centre Northside in North Sydney.

Xavier Johnson, Brayden Boutilier and Matthew MacIntosh also scored goals for the Panthers.

Jacob Jessome scored three goals for the Marauders, while Evan Fraser chipped in with a single marker.

Owen Coombes made 14 saves for Glace Bay. Aidan Penny turned aside 18 of 28 shots for Memorial.

Cape Breton High School Hockey resumes on Friday when the Riverview Redmen host the Marauders at 7 p.m. at the Cape Breton County Recreation Centre in Coxheath.

Riverview falls to Dartmouth school in Panther Classic final

GLACE BAY, N.S. — 

The defending tournament champion Riverview Redmen ended up on the wrong end of a 6-0 score line that saw Dartmouth’s Auburn Eagles capture the 2019 Panther Classic title.

Riverview defeated the host Glace Bay Panthers 4-1 in one of two semifinal matches played on Saturday.

The other match saw Auburn cruise to a 7-2 win over Truro’s C.E.C. Cougars.

Other teams that took part in the tournament’s 2019 edition were Sydney Academy Wildcats, Memorial Marauders, Antigonish’s Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals and North Nova Gryphons of New Glasgow.

Riverview won the Panther Classic in 2018, while Glace Bay last claimed victory in their annual tournament in 2017.
