DARTMOUTH, N.S. – Three local high school hockey teams are in Dartmouth this weekend to play in the City of Lakes tournament.
The Glace Bay Panthers, Memorial Marauders and Sydney Academy Wildcats are each playing in the 16-team event.
On Friday, the Panthers opened the tournament with a 4-1 loss to the Millwood Knights.
Tyler Randall had two goals for the Knights while Morgan Rae and Colby Sexton added single markers.
Connor McIntyre had the lone goal for the Panthers.
Cameron Hill was the winning goaltender. Nick Bigley shouldered the loss for Glace Bay.
In the Panthers second game of the day, the Glace Bay squad downed the Sackville Kingfishers 6-1.
Liam Burke netted a pair of goals for the Panthers while Jarrett Hicks, Matthew MacIntosh, Colin Rosta and McIntyre chipped in with goals.
Connor Wolfe had the lone marker for the Kingfishers.
Colten Boutilier picked up the victory between the pipes. Jeff Comeau was tagged with the loss for Sackville.
The Memorial Marauders dropped a pair of games to begin the tournament Friday.
The Sydney Mines school was blanked 4-0 by the Parkview Panthers in the first game of the day.
Connor Zinck had two goals while Connor Goodick and Ben Chisholm also fired home markers.
Spencer Shebib was the losing goaltender. Parkview goaltending statistics were not available.
In the second game, the Marauders were defeated 3-1 by the Lockview Dragons.
Statistics were not made available.
Meanwhile, the Sydney Academy Wildcats also dropped both games to start the tournament Friday.
The Wildcats were downed 6-1 by the host Dartmouth Spartans in Game 1 of the tournament for Sydney.
Zach Stone had two goals for Dartmouth while Nathaniel Wotton, Griffen Moore, Ryan Garnett and Jake Doggett added single markers.
Dylan Williams netted the only goal for Sydney Academy.
Ryan Cruickshank was the winning goaltender. Hunter Chenhall suffered the loss for the Wildcats.
In Game 2 of the day, the Prince Andrew Panthers handed Sydney Academy a 9-2 loss.
Jonathan Booth-Tobin, Bruen Fisher, Colby Giusti and Griffin Radford each fired home two goals for the Spartans, while Kyle Gouthro added a single marker.
Tytan Donovan and Dylan Williams responded with goals for the Wildcats.
Goaltender information for Prince Andrew was not available. Chenhall was the losing goaltender for Sydney Academy.
Memorial will continue the tournament on Saturday against the Leo Hayes Lions at 8:45 a.m., while Glace Bay will face the Miramichi Valley Pulamoo at 9 a.m. Sydney Academy will play the Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders at 10:30 a.m.
The tournament semifinals and championship game times will be determined following the round robin portion of the event.
